Cricket umpires neutral
NZPA-PA London A neutral panel of umpires will control the 1987 World Cup for cricket. India and Pakistan, the cohosts, have invited all five other test-playing nations to contribute one umpire each. The panel will also include two Indian and two Pakistani umpires. Announcing tne move, the secretary of the Internationa) Cricket Conference. Mr Jack Bailey said: “Nobody objects to the World Cup being heid outside England for the first time. “We are confident India and Pakistan will stage a good World Cup." The tournament will be held between October 6 and November 10, 1987, with the final in Calcutta on November 7-8, with semi-finals at Bombay and Lahore on November 1-2. The draw has placed India. Australia and New Zealand in Group A with an association member, and in Group B, England, Sri Lanka, the West Indies and Pakistan will clash. The associate member will qualify by winning a tournament involving all 18 associate countries, to be held in England next summer, with a final at Lord's.
