Cervical cancer kills 96 a year
PA Wellington More than 90 women die of cervical cancer in New Zealand each year, Parliament has heard. Between 1978 and 1982 there had been an average of 96 deaths from cervical cancer in New Zealand each years, said the Minister of Broadcasting, Mr Hunt, replying to a question on behalf of the Minister of Health, Dr Bassett. Mr Hunt, quoting latest available statistics, said that new recommendations for routine cervical screenings were due to be published soon to try to reduce the incidence of the disease.
He said that the possibility of implementing a computerised call-up system for women to have cervical screenings was being investigated.
