Burnside bus stop
Sir,—The Waimairi District Council has plans and has voted finance to shift the Burnside bus
stop from the present position in the wide Kendal Avenue to a position in the narrower Burnside Crescent. This will involve constructing a lay-by on the frontage of several properties and will effectively put the local cake bakery out of business because parked buses will be right on the door together with their diesel fumes. If there is a need to accommodate two buses the stop could be shifted to where there is a small reserve. Can someone from the council explain any reason for this move except that the council’s traffic engineer is falling over backwards to satisfy the local service station, and why were the ratepayers in the area not notified of the council’s intentions? — Yours, etc., J. CAVERHILL. June 27, 1985.
[The chairman of the Waimairi District Council, Cr M. E. Murray, replies as follows: “This matter was raised at the council’s last works meeting where the problems associated with the bus stop, and its possible relocation were discussed. Funds have been provided so that any appropriate relocation of the stop can be implemented, but no decision to move the stop has yet been made. The council has asked the local riding members and staff to make a recommendation to the next works committee meeting.”]
