The Great Pavlova
Sir,—Millions of people, mostly housewives, have suffered untold moments of utter despair, humiliation before guests, the' chaff and wrath of their families, sleepless nights at the thought of divorce and other dire repercussions, all because of pavlova failure. This, for 50 years or more, represents a lot of needless misery. And yet the inventor and perpetrator of this sickly overrated confection, be he or she Kiwi or Aussie, has never been brought to justice. Interpol should get its priorities right. - Yours, etc., STEVE BRYANT. July 11, 1985. Midwife service
Sir,—Our two children were born at home, so I feel very sad at the loss of our domiciliary midwife service. More than sadness though, I
feel very angry at the Canterbury Hospital Board for not doing more to find a domiciliary midwife. The hospital board ought to work for us, but perhaps feels threatened by a number of people taking control of their own lives — i.e., home births. I would like to know what the hospital board intends doing about this matter as the midwives are employed by them. — Yours, etc., JULIE PATERSON. July 11, 1985.
