Two gang members arrested at court
Two members of the Black Power gang were arrested after a disturbance in the foyer of the administration block of the District Court in Armagh Street yesterday afternoon. A policeman sent to the scene suffered bruising in a scuffle that broke out with gang members, said a spokesman for thb Christchurch police. The two men arrested have been granted police bail and will appear in the District Court at a later date. One, aged 22, will face
charges of assaulting a policeman and disorderly behaviour. The other, aged 19, will face charges of asault on a policeman, possession of an offensive weapon, and obstructing the police. The disturbance started just before 3 p.m. when about six members of the gang apparently followed a person wearing a black leather jacket into the court’s administration block. The police were called after an altercation in the building and as a result the two men were arrested.
