Two still sought after factory attack
Two men are still sought by the Christchurch police concerning an attack on a police constable and a manufacturer at a clothing factory on Wednesday evening. The manufacturer, Mr Martin Donnithorne, last evening was reported to be in a fairly comfortable condition in Christchurch Hospital. Mr Donnithorne suffered fractures to the skull and arm after being attacked by a man with a stool. A man has been arrested in connection with the case and appeared in the District
Court yesterday charged with burglary. He has been remanded in custody to July 19. The attack happened after Mr Donnithorne and the constable entered Mr Donnithome’s clothing factory, in Cashel Street, to investigate what had triggered an alarm. Burglars were interrupted and the constable ended up struggling with a man. Another person set about Mr Donnithorne with a stool. The intruders fled before police reinforcements arrived. The constable was not hurt.
