Blitz next week on unlicensed cars
Unlicensed vehicles will be the subject of a Ministry of Transport campaign next week. The chief traffic officer in Christchurch, Mr Barry Thackwell, said yesterday that he was concerned about the number of motorists who had not made the effort to relicense their vehicle or to display the new licence sticker. Mr Thackwell said motorists were obliged by law to display a licence sticker on a vehicle’s windscreen.
During next week’s campaign, traffic officers will also check warrants of fitness and ensure that motorists are wearing seat belts. “We are particularly concerned about cars with towbars obscuring number plates,” Mr Thackwell said. Drivers of vehicles without licence stickers could be fined a minimum of $25, Mr Thackwell said. That was for an infringement notice. A heavier fine could apply if a traffic officer issued a traffic offence notice.
