Crane removed

By dawn yesterday, only the cab and tracks remained of the towering Skyhorse crane that crashed across the decks of the Australian Exporter at the Lyttelton container terminal on Thursday afternoon. Workmen had toiled under floodlights all night to remove the wreckage of the 60m crane jib which had been draped across the ship and into the sea. The 23,000-ton Australian

Exporter sailed for Wellington at 10 a.m. The manager of the con-, tainer terminal, Mr Bill Siddall, confirmed yesterday that damage to the ship had, been superficial. Three containers had also been slightly damaged, he said. Work is continuing on the replacement Samba crane, which is expected to be ready for use in two weeks or less.
