Infant mortality rate up in 1983
More children under a B* old died in New Zeain 1983 compared with the previous year, according to a report yesterday by the National Health Statistics Centre. The report, “Foetal and Infant Deaths 1983” shows
there were 649 infant deaths that year, which was an increase of eight per cent on the 1982 rate of 12 per cent. The report showed that more infant deaths occurred in the post neno-natal period (after the age of one month) than 10 years ago.
