General forecast: A depression west of the North Island is moving south-eastwards towards central New Zealand. An anticyclone is moving eastwards well to the south of the South Island. District forecasts: Canterbury: Easterly winds, becoming strong in coastal places and over higher ground; mostly overcast, with rain becoming widespread and snow to below 800 metres. Nelson, Buller, Marlborough: Easterly winds predominating, mainly moderate, but fresh about the Sounds; cloudy and

cool, with periods of rain. Westland: Moderate easterly winds predominating; mostly cloudy with further rain, but brighter intervals developing. Extended range forecast to Tuesday: Canterbury: Periods of rain through Sunday, rain easing to scattered showers on Monday with winds becoming variable. Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland: Cloudy with periods of rain. On Monday and Tuesday northwesterly winds, with some showers likely, but becoming mostly fine in Nelson.
