Kiwi sprints

PA Wellington The Waverley stayer, Kiwi, has stepped up his preparation for this year’s ?1 million Fosters Melbourne Cup. The rising eight-year-old gelding’s part-owner, Anne Lupton, said Kiwi had a short sprint at the Waverley track yesterday morning. Kiwi completed a quiet round of pacework and then sprinted 600 m with his trainer, Snow Lupton, in the saddle. Mrs Lupton said the 1983 Melbourne Cup winner was not showing his age. “He’s looking the same as ever,” she said. According to Mrs Lupton Kiwi is scheduled to return to racing next month.
