Spencer sells paintings

NZPA-AP London Earl Spencer, father of the Princess of Wales, parted with more family heirlooms yesterday to help pay a £2 million ($5.87 million) bill for repairs to his family’s ancestral home. Five paintings owned by Lord Spencer, who lives at Althorp, in Northamptonshire, central England, raised almost £170,000 ($484,500) at Sotheby’s in London. Lord Spencer has expressed regret at having to sell the works but says that it is the only way to keep up his palatial residence.
