‘Black box’ No. 2 lifted

NZPA-AFP London A robot submarine has recovered from the ocean floor the second flight recorder of the Air-India jumbo jet that crashed into the Atlantic last month killing all 329 aboard, the crew of the submarine’s base ship said yesterday. The overnight recovery follows up that of the first flight recorder on Wednesday from the debris of the sunken aircraft.

Investigators hope data from the “black boxes” will help explain why the Boeing 747 crashed in the sea lOOkms off the south-west of Ireland on June 23 without sending a distress signal. The Indian authorities suspect a bomb.
