Rowles ‘two hours from death’
PA Auckland The New Zealand singer, John Rowles, was only two hours from death when he underwent emergency stomach surgery, his New Zea* land promoter revealed yesterday. “He was in a critical condition,” Mr Benny Levin said in Auckland.
Only Rowle’s superb physical condition had enabled him to survive the surgery for stomach ulcers and make an -astonishingly quick recovery, Mr Levin said.
Rowles had now been discharged from the Los Angeles Hospital and was recuperating at his California home before beginning rehearsals for a forthcoming tour of New Zealand and Australia. Rowles’ illness had forced the postponment of a New Zealand and Australia tour but this would now be from August 28 to October 10.
