Police not ready to decide

PA Auckland The Turangi police say it could be up to a month before any decision is made about charging the leader of the New Zealand Party, Mr Bob Jones, with assaulting four journalists on Tuesday. The police had made their initial inquiries, but now had “more important things to do,” said Sergeant Bob Delaney yesterday. “Just because Bob Jones is involved we cannot give it any more attention,” he said.

The police inquiries relate to charges of assault laid against Mr Jones by two “Auckland Star” journalists and two TVNZ newsmen. Mr Jones was reported to be seeking legal advice over claims of harassment by journalists at Turangi on Tuesday.
