NZPA-AAP Nottingham The England captain, David Gower, won the toss for the first time in the Ashes series at Trent Bridge here yesterday, and elected to bat in the third test against Australia. The wicket appeared good for batting, The Australian selectors surprisingly named the rookie pace bowler, Dave Gilbert, as twelfth man, making no change to the team which won the second test at Lord’s. The teams — Australia: Andrew Hilditch (vice-captain), Graeme Wood, Kepler Wessels, Allan Border (captain), Greg Ritchie, David Boon, Wayne Phillips, Simon O’Donnell, Geoff Lawson, Craig McDermott, Bob Holland.
England: Graham Gooch, Tim Robinson, Gower, Mike Gatting, Alan Lamb,,lan Botham, Paul Downton, John Emburey, Phil Edmonds, Arnie Sidebottom, Paul Allott.
