Coach inquiry decision soon

A decision on the hearing of complaints against the former coach of the Leopard Criterion Napier men’s basketball team, Mr John Dybvig, is expected to be announced late on Monday evening. A sub-committee of the New Zealand Basketball Federation will hear complaints of allegations of abusive language to referees after Napier’s games against Ponsonby and Centrals (Wellington).
On June 18, the league executive banned Mr Dybvig from coaching for the remainder of the season, after Napier’s late arrival on court in the Countrywide League match against Converse-Canterbury the previous Sunday afternoon. “The federation sub-com-mittee will meet bn Monday
afternoon and the hearing could take some time,” said the federation’s executive director, Mr Joe McLeod, in Christchurch yesterday. He expected the sub-committee to make a recommendation later in the afternoon. Mr McLeod will then contact members of the executive to inform them of the recommendations and asking them for their views. The federation will then inform Mr Dybvig or his representative of the decision.
Also on Monday, the league’s sub-committee will consider an appeal by Mr Dybvig against the earlier suspension. Mr Dybvig will make-a decision this afternoon whether he will attend the hearing in Christchurch. Basketball’s “rebel,” page 18
