Student referendum a tie

A referendum on whether the University of Canterbury Students’ Association should remain a member of the Student Arts Council has resulted in a tie, with 715 votes in favour of withdrawal and 715 against. Officers of the associa-

tion’s who finished the counting of votes last evening were unsure what the next step would be. The association executive organised the referendum because it felt it could give a better service to students than the council, if it used the funds itself.
