TV ‘minder’ employed
PA Auckland Television New Zealand’s lightly built news reporter, Ron Taylor, has a “minder" at anti-rugby tour demonstrations. A security guard has been
hired to watch Mr Taylor and his camera crew during demonstrations because television crews have become targets in the past. It is not the first time “minders” have been em-
ployed to look after television crews during hazardous assignments; they were also used during the Marsden Point disputes. Mr Taylor said that as well as keeping an eye on the crew, the guard was useful for carrying extra gear. Some Radio New Zealand reporters have had guards to protect them at selected matches during the present England rugby tour.
