New electoral chief
PA Wellington The new Registrar-Gen-eral and Chief Electoral Officer will be Mr Brian Clarke, who succeeds the late Mr Peter Horne. The Deputy Secretary for Justice. Mr Jim Cameron, has said that Mr Clarke had played an important part in the smooth running of last July’s General Election. He had been Acting Re-gistrar-General and Chief Electoral Officer for some months during Mr Horne’s illness, Mr Cameron said. Mr Clarke joined the Justice Department as a Magistrate's Court clerical cadet at Hastings in 1965. He worked in The Magistrate’s Courts at Wellington and Otahuhu and in the department’s head office before his appointment as Deputy Registrar-General and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer in 1980.
