Beirut kidnapping The director of the American Hospital in Beirut, David Gibson, was kidnapped yesterday on his way to work. The hospital said that Mr Gibson, an American, was seized by gunmen but it had received no claim for the kidnapping—Beirut. Airport protest More than 3500 Leftwingers held a rally and march near Tokyo’s international airport, at Narita, to protest against plans to build a second runway. — Narita.
Pithy comedian The comedian, Bill Cosby, has offered a bit of homespun wisdom in accepting an honorary degree from Brown University. “In the words of my grandfather, who neve read a book other than the Bible, 'First comes reality, then comes philosophy, we start with the rent’,” Cosby said. Among those in the audience at the Ivy League school’s 217th commencement was the former Vice-President, Walter Mondale, whose son was among 1300 students receiving bachelors’ degrees — Providence.
