Teachers welcome additions
The Government’s decision to approve 405 additional teacher equivalents has been welcomed by the Canterbury chairman of the standing committee of the Post-Primary Teachers’ Association, Ms Rae James. The decision was what the staffing review group representing the association,
the Country School Board Association, and the Education Department, had sought, said Ms James last evening. “It is excellent news and the first major step towards implementing the review group’s recommendations,” she said. “It is too early to sav how many of the 405 teacher equivalents should
be allocated to the Christchurch district, as this is based on school needs. “Further steps are required to move into greater teacher training. The Government’s provision for capital expenditure for physical and teacher resources and in-service training is very important,” she said.
