Riding change for Upper Cut
Special correspondent Dunedin Paul Richards has been engaged to ride Upper Cut in the Noble Bijou Handicap at Wingatui on Saturday. The judicial committee of the Oamaru Jockey Club advised Upper Cut's trainer, Tony Prendergast, to engage a stronger rider after the gelding’s showing last Saturday. Upper Cut was ridden at Oamaru by the stable apprentice, Jan Cameron, who has the mount on another member of the stable. Young Nick, this week. Eminence enhanced her prospects for the first leg of the T.A.B. treble on Saturday when she worked well at Wingatui yesterday morning. She was shading Red Note with a gap of two lengths to Bilbah after running 1000 m in Imin 4.25. the last 800 m in 51.25, on an easy inside grass. Eminence won at the Otago Hunt meeting last week. Biibah's performance did not concern his trainer, Graeme Offen, as the geld-
ing was not wearing blinkers. He wears them on raceday. Katiki Bay, which races on the second day of the Otago meeting, worked keenly with My Anui when covering 1000 m in Imin 4.95, the last 800 m in 51.95.
Seafarer and Kiwi Boy did well to record 51.9 s for 800 m. Seafarer is being prepared for a hurdles career. Kiss Me Kate, Blue Mountain and Pinafore ran 800 m in 52.25, Della Flight and The Nob took 52.65, and Bernadone and Jet Star, 53.65. Aqua Dawn ran 1000 m in Imin 6.15, the last 800 m in 52.65.
Della Flight has been scratched on Saturday after drawing wide. Cup of Honey and Bonny Show have also been scratched. Cup of Honey was galloped on at Oamaru.
Dream Command will be tried in blinkers on Saturday. Taieri Gem will also race with blinkers. Dream Command easily won a 1200 m trial in blinkers on the course on Sunday.
