U.S. Harewood base
Sir,—lf, as Julie McQuilken and the Yaldhurst Young Nationals say (May 28), “the United States believes in peace, justice and freedom,” how come that nation gives so much financial and military support to the repressive regimes and regular violators of human rights in control of Turkey, Pakistan, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, the Philippines. Ei Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Chile? Citizens for the Demilitarisation of Harewood have a lot of “concrete evidence” — much from official United States sources - to back their claims. They regularly publish and distribute it to those interested. They are definitely not “merely political” or necessarily showing “anti-American hysteria” as Julie McQuilken naively claims. — Yours, etc., M. T. MOORE. May 28, 1985.
