Success for pipers
The St Andres’s College Pipe Band had a notable success at the twenty-sixth annual miniature pipe band contest at Paraparaumu last week-end, according to the band’s manager, Mr Euan Dunlop. The band, the only South Island representative, won the grade three contest, beating eight others.
In solo-piping, Pipe-major lan McGowan won the under 21 New Zealand championship piobaireaehd.
Pipe-major McGowan was also runner-up in the Wellington provincial jig and hornpipe competition, and piper Jonathon Wells beat 28 competitors to win the C grade championship.
