Morphine overdose
PA Wellington An overdose of morphine accidentally given to a woman, aged 87, at Hutt Hospital had accelerated her death, the Coroner’s Court heard in Lower Hutt yesterday. The Coroner, Mr Alex Protheroe, found that Ivy Myrtle Payne, of Lower Hutt, died on December 16
from broncho-pneumonia associated with blood clots in the lung and with extensive arterio-sclerotic heart disease. Her death was accelerated by an unintentional overdose of morphine. The Court heard that on December 14 Mrs Payne had been given morphine prescribed to another patient.
