Canon Lowe retirement

Canon Bob Lowe, vicar, author, and a prominent figure in Christchurch, has announced his intention to retire.

Canon Lowe, the vicar of Fendalton for about 20 years, said last evening that his retirement would probably come into effect in about 18 months to coincide with his sixtieth birthday.

He is undecided on how he will spend his retirement but he has several ideas.

These included doing more writing, more reading, lowering his golf handicap, perhaps doing some shows for 1.T.V., in Britain, and perhaps taking part in an archeological dig on a Greek island. Canon Lowe said that asking what he was going to do was a little like “opening Pandora’s box.”

He said he would be sorry

to leave Fendalton, but .after 3897 weddings and a similar number of funerals at St Barnabas’ it was not surprising that he was “running out of puff.”
