Racecourses hit by regrading

Thirteen South Island racecourses have been classified as “ungraded” after the Racing Authority’s decision to centralise the racing industry yesterday. Courses to fall into the ungraded category include Kaikoura, Orari, Waimate, Hokitika, Kumara, and Reefton.

The new classification will mean that the courses will receive.stakes subsidies at the March interim level and will receive assistance only for track maintenance. This will make it difficult for the clubs to continue racing at their present venues.
