Swimmer sets record

PA Wellington Donna Bouzaid is “thrilled to bits” at slashing almost three hours off the Cook Strait north-south women’s swimming record set only weeks ago by another Wellington woman, Karen Bisley. Bouzaid, aged 22, finished her swim to Perano Head

on the South Island in Bhr 15min yesterday. The time was only 24 minutes short of the men’s north-south record of 7hr 51 min set by Philip Rush last year. Bouzaid said she was swimming ahead of Rush’s times until after the halfway point when she hit a rip and rough weather.
