Isolation no longer possible’ “Mr Hawke

NZPA-AAP Canberra In a barely disguised reference to the New Zealand Government’s antinuclear policy, the Prime Minister, Mr’ Hawke, said last evening, that isolation was no longer a viable alternative in today’s world. Although Mr Hawke did not mention New Zealand or

the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, by name, he risks further criticism by members of the Left wing of the Australian Labour Party who are already concerned about what they regard as departures from Australia’s policy of non-interference in the A.N.Z.U.S. crisis. Mr Hawke made his remarks after being invested

with Lebanon’s Grand Order of Merit at the Lebanese Ambassador’s residence of Canberra last evening. “There is one thing that all Australians must understand, all people in our region must understand, and that is we cannot afford effectively to live in a world where isolation is possible,” he said.
