Scott Bowden set two new records in the intermediate section of the Shirley Boys’ High School athletics sports. The first was in the 400 m, which he covered in the outstanding time of 48.65, and the second was his 22.6 s for the 200 m. In the senior section, Derek Scott also set two new marks, 60.5 s for the 400 m hurdles and I.Bom for the high jump. Other
seniors to break records were Scott Miller (3.7 m for the triple jump) and John Greenwood (6min 23.6 s for the 2000 m steeplechase). Dean Wilson broke the only junior records, both in throwing events. He got the discus out to 44.46 m and the shot to 12.93 m. F. de Bie set a new time of 16.6 s for the under 14 100 m hurdles.
