Witness to attack sought

Christchurch detectives believe that four persons might have seen a man threaten a young woman with a roasting fork and then indecently assault her in North Hagley Park yesterday morning. The incident happened while the woman, a student, aged 21, was cycling to Christchurch Hospital about 5.30 a.m. The man grabbed and threatened the woman near Victoria Lake, but fled when more cyclists came along. Detective Sergeant David Quested said that the police would like to hear from two cyclists, a man and a woman, and two men joggers, both middle-aged, who might have seen the incident. The attacker is described as European, aged in his mid-30s, with short, brown hair and wide-set eyes. He wore a brown jersey.
