Talks by rubber workers
The Canterbury Rubber Workers’ Union and Firestone Tire and Rubber Company management had talks yesterday with the help of a Christchurch mediator, Mr Maurice Teen, about the dispute which has stopped production at Firestone in Papanui since February 18.
About 300 workers are either on strike or suspended at the factory. The dispute is over wage claims by a small group of technical and laboratory workers who are members of the union.
A spokesman for the company said that the talks would continue today.
