Liquor Council chairman
PA Wellington Mr A. C. Shailes was yesterday appointed chairman of the Alcoholic Liquor Advisory Council. He succeeds Mr John Robertson, who was recently appointed an Ombudsman. Mr Shailes was AuditorGeneral from August, 1975, until he retired in July, 1983.
He has a background in economics and accountancy, and was first secretary (economic) in the New Zealand Embassy in Washington from 1961 to 1965. The Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer, said that Mr Shailes would bring a balanced and moderate attitude to the chairmanship.
