Dunedin wool slips

PA Dunedin Prices eased for most classes of wool at the Dunedin sale yesterday. Many slips showed substantial yellowing. The chairman of the Council of Wool Exporters, Mr Mike Moss, said the strength of the United States dollar had caused uncertainty in the market. The Wool Board bid on about 25 per cent of the offering and bought about 12.5 per cent. The official report said that compared with the Christchurch sale on February 14, Halfbred wool was in buyers’ favour, except for Halfbred lambs’ wool which was firm. Compared with the Inver-cargill-Timaru sale on February 15, Crossbred fleece was in the buyers’ favour, cotts back 2.5 per cent, and skirtings back 2.5 to 5 per cent. Second-shear generally was firm, lambs’ wool

slipped 2.5 per cent, and lambs’ pieces fell 7.5 per cent. The main competition came from Eastern and Western Europe, the Far East and New Zealand mills. The adjusted weighted average sale price was 372.33 c a kilogram greasy and 499.50 c clean. It will apply from midnight on February 21 to midnight on February 27. The market indicator was 372 c greasy and 500 c clean. The range of prices (clean) was — Halfbred, 25 micron: Good to 802.
