Children could suffer: doctor
PA Dunedin Children will suffer if the “hasty and inadequate” child benefit scheme proceeds as it is, according to the Otago and Southland faculty of the New Zealand College of General Practitioners.
The faculty said it deplored the inadequate funding of family doctor services in New Zealand, the restrictiveness of the pro-
posals made by the Minister of Health, Dr Bassett, and the aggressively divisive policies displayed by him. The chairman of the faculty, Dr R. C. Muir, said that the division which was being created was “the sad thing” about the scheme. “Doctors have a conflict between the needs of children in their practice and the long-term consequences of the restriction in the scheme,” he said.
