Piggott booed

NZPA-AAP Hawkesbury

The world champion jockey, Lester Piggott, raised the ire of a small band of punters after being beaten on plunge horse, Magic Time, in the First Intermediate Handicap (1000 m at Hawkesbury yesterday. Piggott was booed by a number of hecklers after the heavily backed Magic Time (6-1 to 13-4 favourite) finished fifth behind Azamor. The champion English jockey, on a “busmans holiday” in Australia, failed to ride a winner from three mounts at the Hawkesbury Cup meeting. The small group of punters hooted the jockey as he returned to scale on Magic Time. The heckling seemed illfounded as Piggott appeared to give Magic Time every chance.
