Gurner’s Lane put down

NZPA-AAP Melbourne Gurner’s Lane, the winner of the 1982 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, was put down at the Melbourne University Veterinary Clinical early yesterday. Senior part owner Andrew Ramsden said the six-year-old gelding had developed a rare condition of “twisted bowel” and underwent emergency surgery on

Monday. “Unfortunately Gurner’s Lane did not make a sufficient recovery and it was decided yesterday morning, for humane reasons, he should be put down,” he said.

Gurner’s Lane, which recently retired as a racehorse, will be cremated after an autopsy is completed.
