Anticipation wins

PA Nelson The veteran Auckland blue-water vessel Anticipation ghosted the last few kilometres across Tasman Bay to take line honours in the inaugural Devonport-to-Nelson yacht race on Monday.

Don Sinclair-Brown’s 15.1 metre yacht crossed the finish line shortly after midday about 12 ’ kilometres ahead of Clark Gable, a new Auckland boat skippered by

Ross Guiniven. In third position was Don Harland's Plane Jane. The fourth placed yacht, Kitenga, was leading on performance rated handicap after last night's radio check. While Anticipation barely had enough wind to fill her spinnaker crossing Tasman Bay, the backmarkers were battling gale force southeasterlies off the lower west coast of the North Island.
