Loveridge has easy victory

Loveridge, so impressive when second in the Champion Stakes at Ashburton last week, made no race of the E. F. Mercer Mile at Addington Raceway last evening. The talented son of Out to Win and Buzz Off led all the way, setting a slack pace in the middle stages and then drawing out in the run home to win by four lengths. The southern challenger. Bold Guest, sprinted up from last near the 800 m to join Loveridge in front 600 m out. He showed courage to hold on for second, a smart run as the leaders took 58.2 s for their final 800 m of one mile in 2min 1.55. Canto Boy fought on well for third, a nose from Bold Guest, with the favourite. Master Mood, an unlucky fourth another nose aw’ay. Master Mood received a splendid trail behind Loveridge, but he lost his place near the 400 m and burst through the middle of the bunch close to the line. He looked desperately unlucky.
