Medical benefit
Sir,—Dr Bassett’s reply to P. J. Watt’s letter is fascinating on account of what he fails to say and his refusal to answer the question in regard to patients being able to claim their own refund from the Health Department. I understand that, over the years, most doctors have claimed the general medical services benefit on behalf of patients although patients had the right to claim that benefit directly from the Department of Health if they so wished. Is it the Minister of Health’s intention to deny me this right to claim directly from the Health Department, if I attend a doctor who prefers no longer to claim G.M.S. fees on my behalf?— Yours, etc., E.- T. RAUMATI. December 20, 1984.
