Paraplegic appeal income falls
PA Wellington A significant drop in income raised by the annual paraplegics appeal has been blamed on the new superannuation tax announced in the Budget. The executive officer of the Paraplegic and Physically Disabled Federation, Mr Jim McKie, said the appeal, which last year raised $72,000, was 11 per cent down this year in monetary terms, and 15 per cent down on the number of donations received.
Mr McKie said indications were that the organisation would not do as well as last year and feedback from regular donors laid the blame on the Budget tax on superannuitants. The annual national appeal, now in its fifth year, provides funds for the federation’s main activity — the rehabilitation of the disabled back into the community. It takes the form of lowcost loan finance, counselling, therapy and other assistance.
