Concerts by N.Z. artists
PA Wellington More than 75 per cent of the Music Federation’s 1985 concerts will be presented by New Zealand artists. The federation’s general manager, Ms Elisabeth Airey, said .that this reflected the ever-increasing standard of New Zealand musicians. It was a reversal of the early 19705, when the federation had a smaller network of centres and 75 per cent of concerts were presented by overseas musicians.
The federation’s thirtyfifth concert season, officially launched on November 8, will have 14 tours. More than 100 concerts will be presented in 37 centres, ranging from Auckland and Wellington to Akaroa. The English string quartet, the Chilingirian Quartet, will open the season in main centres and main provincial cities.
Other string quartets later in the year will be the Takacs Quartet, from Hungary, on its first visit; the Melos Quartet, from Germany; and the Auckland String Quartet
A highlight of the “Music Live in 85” season would be a return visit by the Beaux Arts Trio, of New York, Ms Airey said. The trio made its official public debut 28 years ago and has played more than 4000 engagements world-wide.
