President blasted by Fiji coach

NZPA Suva The Fiji soccer coach, Ilazrat All, launched a bitter attack yesterday on the Fijian Football Association president, Hari Pal Singh, saying he should demand disciplinary action against New Zealand players involved in brawls with Fijian opponents in two internationals there last month. Mr Ali said he is disappointed Mr Singh has not reported the free-for-alls to the New Zealand Football Association and asked for action against New Zealand players. The Fijian coach cited the New Zealand mid-fielder, Grant Turner, as an instigator of the onfield violence. He said rather than pursu-

ihg justice, Mr Singh had chosen to lie low. New Zealand won the first of the two “friendly” internationals 2-1 and drew the second 1-1. Both games ended in brawls for which, Mr Ali said, Fiji had taken most of the blame. Fiji’s former national captain, Bale Raniga, who was sent off for kicking the New Zealand defender, Ricki Herbert, in the head during the first international, will face the F.F.A.’s disciplinary committee in three weeks along with Eliki Tabaki, Mohammed Shariff and Abraham Watkins. Mr Ali said Mr Singh had gone too far in his criticism of the local team.
