Cup Sweepstakes

PA Wellington The Kiwi and Silver Fern Melbourne Cup Sweepstakes to be drawn this morning willbe based on the field confirmed at 5 p.m. yesterday (N.Z. time), said the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Tapsell, yesterday. “This is the first venture by New Zealand lotteries into Australian racing and it will mean that there will be other big winners in this country apart from the

usual successes in the Melbourne Cup of New Zealandowned or New Zealand-bred horses,” he said. “If there are any scratchings ... those scratched horses will still be included in the draw, and anybody holding tickets matched against them will be entitled to a share of the pool allocated to ‘other starters’,” he said. Mr Tapsell wished all ticket-holders “the very best of luck.”
