Coney injures hand

NZPA staff correspondent Colombo The New Zealand cricket captain, Jeremy Coney, is undergoing treatment to a hand injury which might keep him out of the first three-day match in Pakistan later this week.

Coney dislocated a finger in Sunday’s match against Sri Lanka, trying to catch a scorching off drive from Aravinda de Silva. The team doctor, Richard Edmond, thought it was fractured at first and took Coney for an X-ray.

The finger, the third on his right hand, was re-set where a bone had come out of its socket, and was packed in ice to reduce the swelling. Coney has been advised to rest up to the three-day match starting on Thursday in Rawaepindi.
