Champion Stakes worth $8500

Sponsorship has been announced for three of the Ashburton Trotting Club’s events to be held at its Boxing Day meeting on December 26. The feature three-year-old event, the Champion Stakes has received a $lOOO sponsorship from the National Mutual Finance group and will now be known as the National Mutual Finance Champion Stakes. It will be worth $B5OO. Sponsorship from Dominion Breweries has increased the stake of the D.B. Ashburton Cup for C 7 and faster pacers from $7OOO to $9000; while the stake for the C 5 and faster trot, now known as the 100 Pipers Stakes, has risen from $4200 to $5200. The stake for the Bayer Rintal Handicap (C 5 and C 6 pacers) has risen from $4200 to $4BOO.
