Impact of TV

Sir,—Are there really no statistics to show a direct relationship between people’s television viewing and their actions? What about the results of television advertising? Are advertisers so stupid as to waste money on advertising which has negligible effect? Concerning the recent increase in graffiti and vandalism on schools, the same old “no evidence” statement was made. If there were no statistics before, the real evidence is emerging. Mr Rod Cameron said “it was too easy to blame television for something happening in society.” Not too easy. Just easy. Today’s “Viewfinder” will “examine the subject” of glue sniffing. I wonder how many youngsters will be damaged as a result.—Yours, etc., RON WALLACE. November 1, 1984.
