Export water flows

PA Nelson The saga of the Sanko Heritage appeared to be settled yesterday when loading of water for Nauru Island began after two cancellations because of industrial disputes. The water from the town supply began flowing early yesterday with two watersiders and one Nelson Harbour Board employee supervising the hose.

The Nelson City Council works engineer, Mr David Faulkner, said that about 15,500 tonnes would be pumped aboard for shipment to the Pacific phosphate island of Nauru. The shipment, sold at 35c a cubic metre (one tonne) rather than the standard industrial rate of 14c, represents about half of one day’s town consumption at present levels.
