New park resident

Orana Park’s newest resident, a Patas monkey (above), showed few effects of a 24-hour journey, from the United States when she arrived yesterday. Sporting two tiny tell-tale bruises of the trip, the small, sprightly monkey seemed more interested in her new surroundings than in jet-lag or weariness. The monkey was a gift from Seattle, a sister city of Christchurch, and will be paired with the park’s male Patas monkey, Tatu. A gift of four hedgehogs was given to Seattle by Christchurch in February this year. .

The monkey will be isolated from Tatu for up to 14 days before they are paired, although she will be on display to the public. A competition is likely to be held to give her a name. Her trip . from . Los Angeles was sponsored by Air New Zealand, which has also "adopted” her for a year and will be responsible for her upkeep during that time.
